Because the laser emits very short pulses of light, many patients may experience a sensation similar to the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. Although the treatment does not require anesthesia, many laser tattoo removal centers do offer topical or injectable numbing agents in order to reduce any pain. After treatment, patients are typically given an antibiotic cream or ointment and an ice pack to soothe any redness.
