Not for the most part; however, some patients may experience discomfort from teeth whitening. This is less from the procedure itself, and more to do with the teeth themselves. Patients who have sensitive teeth and gums, or are experiencing tooth decay, gum recession, or enamel abrasion may experience discomfort from teeth whitening. For most patients, any pain from the procedure will subside quickly. If you are experiencing any of the issues listed above, check with your dentist before undergoing teeth whitening.
