DEXA scans do not require fasting before the day of the exam, so you can eat as much as you would on a normal day as long as you do not take calcium supplements. Because metal objects may interfere with the x-ray images, you will be asked to remove anything on your person that might contain metal, such as jewelry, belts, glasses, or keys.
Youll also be asked to remove most (or all) of your clothing before the exam and will be given a gown to wear instead.
If you are currently pregnant or you think theres a possibility you may be, you should always tell your doctor and radiologist beforehand for your own safety. DEXA scans are usually not performed on pregnant women as to avoid exposing the fetus to radiation.
